Jasmine Rodgers - 'live' in the UK: supporting Scott Matthews
“A wonderful, evocative piece of songwriting” Clash
“Music pours out of Jasmine Rodgers” For Folk’s Sake
“Fantastic Music” Edi Stark, BBC Scotland
“Jasmine imbues her well-wrought sound with a brooding otherworldly quality, embracing the sounds of different cultures. Beautiful... Throughout the album (Blood Red Sun) are dalliances and intriguing explorations of the self and it’s all bolstered with a line-up of musicians whose credentials are a tick list of talent, drawing influence from Anglo, Celtic and Middle Eastern origin”.
(The Girls Are - review of ‘Blood Red Sun’.)
Jasmine Rodgers was born into an artistic family – her mother a Japanese poet Machiko Shimizu, her father the legendary vocalist Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company, Queen). Jasmine began her professional career as frontwoman, lyricist and acoustic guitarist for UK band Boa (not to be confused with the Korean pop songstress). Boa went on to record two albums, achieving renown in the Americas, France and Japan, after their single ‘Duvet’ featured in the anime series 'Serial Experiments Lain'. The group disbanded in 2005, but Jasmine continued her association with the anime/manga genre, writing songs for the soundtrack of 'Armitage: Dual Matrix', which starred Juliette Lewis and latterly for 'Classic Oid' released in 2017.
'Blood Red Sun', released late in 2016, was recorded at Black Dog Studios - (Producer Sean Genockey - Tom McRae, Red Racer, Roger Daltrey) in London and is the sound of an exceptional artist drawing deep from global musical experiences to craft a set of inventive, euphonious 21st-century folk. Since then Jasmine and Sean toured support for the Bad Company arena tour in 2016, and with John Hogg (Magpie Salute) and Dan Kavanagh (Jamie Lenman, Godsized) performed at Camden Rocks. A live recording of her performance at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2017 was released on vinyl in July 2018. Jasmine is now working on material for a new ep, released later this year. After supporting Scott Matthews in May, Jasmine was delighted to have been invited back as support for the September leg of Scotts Autumn tour, dates below:
